Urban Dreams 4th annual 24-hour community appreciation buffet to serve over 1000 meals to neighbors, first responders, and business leaders – presented by Broadlawns Medical Center
Last year Urban Dreams served over 1200 meals to our neighbors, Des Moines police, Des Moines firefighters, business leaders, elected official, and community activists. With the generous support of Broadlawns Medical Center and our gracious restaurant partners, this year, we plan to serve even more. In 2016, the first year of the event, we served over 500 meals over the 24-hours.
Urban Dreams will begin serving at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, and end on Friday, August 30, at 9 a.m. Meals are served at their office, located at 601 Forest Ave. Des Moines, IA 50314. All meals are free thanks to their restaurant partners: Baratta’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Buzzard Billy’s, DMACC Culinary, Gusto Pizza, Hy Vee, Latin King, Olive Garden, Papa John’s Pizza, Rudy’s Texas BBQ, Smokey D’s BBQ, Texas Roadhouse, and more.
The event is designed to allow for neighbors to have a meal, or meals, with those who serve, protect, hire, and lead our community. And for police officers to have positive out-of-car experiences with neighbors.
“Too often, our neighbors and clients are too busy to meet with community leaders or do not have access to them. During this 24-hour event, residents have the opportunity to meet with, eat with, and talk with police, elected officials, business leaders, and one another about our city. The conversations that begin over a meal are authentic. These interactions are the foundation of building those much-needed relationships, and we are proud to be a part of it getting it done,” stated Izaah Knox, Urban Dreams’ executive director.
