Support Urban Dreams
Since 1985, Urban Dreams has been the preeminent social service provider to Des Moines' inner city. Over the years, Urban Dreams has helped thousands of area residents overcome adversity and empower them on the path toward self-sufficiency. Programs such as Healthy Start Case Management, Community Care Case Management, Substance Abuse Treatment, and Behavioral Health Intervention Services help children, youth, and families achieve a better life.
But Urban Dreams' work is far from done. We need your help and support for it to continue. Page one of the Des Moines Register's March 8, 2006, Metro Section carried the headline, "Polk rise in crime by youths worries officials." The Register reported that Polk County Juvenile court had over 100 more cases in January and February of 2006 than it had in the same period the previous year. "'We're seeing more gang activity, especially in the schools, the middle schools particularly,' said juvenile courts spokeswoman Pamm Cox." We wish we could say that things had greatly improved since then, but we can’t. The need is just as great now as it was then.
